Activity Time ideas for the school holidays
29 Mar 2023
Keep children busy these school holidays! Supporting parents, teachers, librarians and carers with engaging kids further in stories, Story Box Library’s Activity Time includes instructional PDFs and videos designed to spark creativity and promote quality connections with family and community. Designed to be used alongside story reads in the library, classroom or at home, Activity Time resources are available for all subscribing schools, libraries and families.
Activity Time resources can be found via the ‘Activities’ tab on each story page, or via our Short Films here. You can also browse resources according to activity type via our Resources page, only available to active subscribers.
Create Daydream Clouds
After watching Slow Down, World, kids can create a Daydream Wall using our Activity Time instructions found on the story page, promoting imagination and mindfulness.
Go on a Bush Walk Senses Hunt or Take a Garden Walk
As in A Walk in the Bush, read beautifully by actor Lyall Brooks, or in Isabella’s Garden, kids can explore their local outdoors and the natural world where they live, whether it’s the Australian bush or a lush garden.
Represent your colourful world
Encourage children to decorate a brick to represent their world after watching Littlelight, using colourful paint, symbols and words that mean something special. Find the Littlelight Activity Time here.
Host a jam session with family and friends
After watching Arthur and the What-Ifs, kids can invite family and friends to have a musical jam session of their own, just like Arthur in the story. Discover the Activity Time for Arthur and the What-Ifs here.
Story Box Library has put together a selection of stories to engage children in environmental themes over the autumn school holidays, in the lead up to Earth Day on 22 April and beyond, forming a lifelong practice of tending to the environment around them in kind and understanding ways.
