My Country
In the country I play with the Morning Star
sing the earth's song
fly with the red desert dust
ride with the whispering wind
My Country is a story inspired by author Ezekiel Kwaymullina's grandmothers, who passed on their love of country to him. Ezekiel's simple, yet beautiful words create an image of what it would have been like for his grandmothers as young Indigenous girls, playing in their country without a care in the world.
Vibrant colours and visually stunning illustrations from Ezekiel's mother, Sally Morgan, bring the story to life in the most wonderful way.
Read by singer Isaiah Firebrace, My Country is a jubilant journey through a child's home country, celebrating the joys of nature and emphasizing the connection between Indigenous Australians and their land.
A wonderful reminder for all children about the importance of connection with country.
